Volunteer Role: Lung Health Navigator

 

The Florida Lung Health Coalition is passionately committed to enhancing lung health and expanding access to lung cancer screening. Our team is seeking a dynamic volunteer to play a crucial role in guiding patients through their lung cancer care journey.

As a valued member of our team, you'll have the unique opportunity to become part of the organization’s committee, gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit management and community engagement. This volunteer position offers not only the chance for professional development and networking within the nonprofit sector but also the satisfaction of contributing to an organization that is making a significant impact on healthcare. Additionally, volunteers will receive out-of-pocket reimbursement for approved expenses and will be provided with the necessary tools, ensuring they have everything needed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Responsibilities: 

  • Identify and qualify adults at risk of lung cancer for screening funding.
  • Guide patients through lung cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Educate patients about lung cancer screening.
  • Collect patient data for research to advance lung cancer care.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient interactions and outcomes.
  • Foster open communication among healthcare teams.

Skills:

  • The ideal candidate will be an RN.
  • Experience in patient navigation or care coordination is desirable.
  • Knowledge of lung cancer screening protocols and treatment guidelines.
  • Proficient in electronic health record systems and data collection.

Volunteer Role: Outreach Specialist

  • Develop and execute outreach plans targeting PCPs, outpatient imaging centers, hospitals, treatment clinics, and adults at risk of lung cancer.
  • Establish connections with community leaders, organizations, and key stakeholders for partnerships.
  • Create and distribute materials, presentations, and communications to promote the organization's services and initiatives.

Skills:

  • The ideal candidate is a current student or graduate with a Medical-related Bachelor's degree, Community Relations, Health Education, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of community outreach and engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources, outreach strategies, and best practices.

Volunteer Role: Data Manager and Analyst

In this volunteer role, you will be a vital part of our dynamic team, focusing on managing, analyzing, and interpreting crucial data for the success of our screening program. This volunteer position not only provides hands-on experience within a non-profit organization but also offers the potential for professional development and networking in both nonprofit and for-profit sectors. We provide you with a laptop and necessary tools to facilitate your role, empowering you to be an integral part of our effort to shift towards early-stage lung cancer diagnosis and increase survival rates within our community.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain databases, ensuring data security and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Utilize statistical methods and tools for meaningful insights from collected data.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and correlations in screening outcomes.
  • Generate reports, visualizations, and dashboards for effective communication to stakeholders.

Skills:

  • The ideal candidate is a current student or graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, or a related field, or practical experience in a related capacity.
  • Experience in data management, analysis, and visualization techniques is desired.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Excel, Python, or R.
  • Understanding of healthcare data standards (HIPAA, HL7, etc.) and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
